Enjoy bathing at the king of onsen area; Iwate and Akita.
Deeply enbedded in the mountain of Iwate Prefecture. A Onsen with brilliant green color is situated there. The place is called “medicinal spring in the mountain” by locals. Kunimi Onsen is its name and it is well known for the color of emerald green. The onsen was found at the top of Kunimi. Pass about two hundred years ago. Green color is the effect of Rayleigh being scattered according to the source.
You have choice of three ryokans; Ishizuka, Moriyama and Kunimi.
Yu-pon love this onsen and stayed at Ishizuka Ryokan for two times. This medicine onsen with green color. This is good for gastrointestinal disorder and neuralgia. And you can command a panoramic view from the top of the Pass. Famous Nyuto Onsen area is located west of Kunimi onsen in an hour drive. Also Tamagawa Onsen is located north-west of Kunimi in an hour and a half drive.
So Yu-pon love this rich area for pleasure in onsen bathing. You should make it there. Enjoy its nature and all joy the king of onsen area has to offer.
Direction to Kunimi by train
From Tokyo Station take the Akita Shinkansen to Shizukuisi 2h30min (Iwate Prefecture), 30 min or around by taxi 4500yen to Kunimi Onsen. Or transfer to the local train and in 7 min(Tazawako Line), get off at Akabuchi Station. Pick up service is available from the hotel upon your request. (need a reservation beforehand, minimum 2 person)
2nd day from Kunimi Onsen to Nyuto Onsen; From Kunimi Onsen The hotel will take you to Akabuchi Station, Taking the Tazawako JR line will get you to Tazawako station in 20 min .
How to get there

Direction by another recommended way,rental car.
Pick up a rental car at Tazawako station. Toyota and Orix rental car office are near the station (5750-6300yen for1day). Using rental car will allow you to drive the area in Nyuto Onsen area, Tamagawa onsen and Shizukuisi onsen. You can also add those area as an option to your travel plan.

Nyuto onsen consists of 7 hot springs;
Turu (a crane) no yu, Kuro-yu, Tae no yu, Magoroku Onsen, Oogama (big pot) Onsen, Kaniba Onsen and kyuuka (holiday) village Onsen. Each hot spring have different yummy taste of roten spring . Yu-Pon would love to stay at Kuro-yu or Turu no yu above all (Those 2 ryokan have mixed bathing style, but not all spring. mixed bathing ;men and women bathe together) . You may face a big problem with this onsen facilities;full booking is often the case at those accommodation. If that is the case, use the daily tour without lodging.
You can still take those 7 hot springs and then you could stay other hotels near the Nyuto onsen.
Shizukuisi Onsen
Shizukuisi Onsen is an optional area you can pick which is close to for Nyuto onsen, and it will provide you with skiing in winter staying at modern hotel. Kunimi onsen belong to this area as well. Shizukuisi onsen is consisted of 10 onsen area and it is located one hour drive from Nyuto onsen. If you go 1hour drive to west, a famous Tamagawa hot spring for curing cancer is situated in the area.

If you want to take longer vacation in Tohoku region. These festivals held annually in the same period such as “Aomori Nebuta, Akita Kanto” Festival, are good choices. We had a wonderful summer time festival. Nebuta, Kanto, Sansa dancing, Hanagasa-ondo, Tanabata Star Festival.
