Maniac(geek) place
Where the place to go for a ninja maniac in Japan?
It is hard to find any historical monuments related to the ninja. Also, their lifestyle and living environment have completely changed since then. Shall we take a look at pictures of the place where the Battle of Magari took place—a battle that made the Kōka ninja famous?
As you can see on Google Maps, there are no signs of the ninja’s vital spirit or any trace of their living environment. Nothing remains but a monument. Their way of life was never recorded in official historical documents. It could be said that ninja techniques were primarily valued for infiltrating enemy territory or conducting secret operations. However, their traditions and the succession of their skills came to an end during the Edo period. For this reason, Yu-pon thinks anyone who wants to get to know the real ninja and explore their traces through sightseeing needs to have some knowledge—and a little imagination too.
Recently, numerous ninja-themed amusement parks have opened as part of the current ninja boom. People who enjoy ninja culture as a form of entertainment now have the option to visit these parks, which feature attractions aligned with this trend. However, while not necessarily intended just for children, many of the programs are overly simplistic and may feel underwhelming for adult visitors. As a result, unless you choose carefully, you’re likely to end up disappointed.
Meanwhile, Yu-pon would like to share a summary of the places I found appealing and actually visited, where ninjas from Iga, Kōka, and Sanada are featured. After that, I’ll introduce some amusement-style attractions that cater to ninja fans.
