Famous Sakura②: Jindai Sakura
Jindai Sakura(Divine Generations Cherry Tree)

Jindai Sakura, officially known as the Yamataka Jindai Sakura, is designated as a Natural Monument.
It is considered the oldest cherry tree in Japan, said to have been planted by Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, a legendary prince of the Yamato dynasty, around 2,000 years ago.
Yu-pon visited the Jindai Sakura, which stands on the grounds of Jisso-ji Temple (of the Tiantai sect of Buddhism).
At first glance, Yu-pon was overwhelmed with joy—this sakura is absolutely enormous! It’s beyond imagination!
This ancient Edohigan cherry tree has a trunk girth of 11.8 meters and stands 10.3 meters tall.
Yu-pon reflected on how people seem to hold a quiet respect for the power of nature to endure.
While looking at this sakura in bloom, another thought came to mind: many people must have lovingly cared for this ancient tree over the centuries.
The tenderness you feel when you’re with your grandpa or grandma—Jindai Sakura gives you that same kind of nostalgic tenderness and happiness.
